I'm receiving too many alerts!

Learn more about the dangers of and how to avoid alert fatigue.

Experiencing Alert Fatigue?

Alert Fatigue is when an overwhelming number of alerts desensitizes the people tasked with responding to them, leading to missed or ignored alerts or delayed responses.

The main problem is the number of alerts. A single alert is easy to respond to, even if it interrupts the normal work or free time of an employee. A dozen alerts in succession is harder. And the higher the number climbs, the more likely it is that an employee will miss something important.

Risks of Alert Fatigue

Slow Response Time

Alert fatigue can impact response times. Even if alerts aren’t missed or permanently ignored, they may be temporarily ignored. When food is on the line, you won't want to wait in case a door has been left open or your equipment has failed.

Missed or Ignored Alerts

When your monitoring system has cried wolf too many times, you and your employees may be conditioned not to respond immediately to alerts. This could result in consequences such as the loss of product or non compliance with food regulations.

Burnout

Constant alerts, sleep interruptions, and full inboxes are a recipe for employee burnout and can lead to lower job satisfaction and lower productivity.

How to avoid alert fatigue

Alert fatigue is a significant problem across a variety of industries—and one that comes with some dire consequences. So, how do we avoid the ignored alerts, slow response times, and employee burnout? Experts point to alert processes and policies themselves as the way forward.

Set Intelligent Thresholds

You may need to go back into your dashboard and adjust your Temperature and Humidity thresholds after getting your system up and running. Don't be afraid to make changes to these thresholds to ensure they are meaningful and only alert it's necessary.

Schedule Alert Down Time
