If your thermostat appears to have lost power, there are several steps that you can take. This article will guide you through troubleshooting your system to restore power.
How can I tell if my thermostat has no power?
If you notice that no lights are illuminating when you use the thermostat, this usually means that the thermostat is not receiving any power. A thermostat that has power should look similar to these:
To restore power to your thermostat, follow these steps:
- Start by inspecting your thermostat. Sometimes, it may have been accidentally bumped off the wall, resulting in a disconnection from the power source. Here are a few things to look out for:
- Make sure the thermostat is securely attached to the wall and flat against it. If it isn’t, readjust the thermostat until it feels secure. If you are unable to do so, the placement of your thermostat may need to be moved.
- Also, check the connection to the power cable in the rear of the thermostat to ensure it has not been disturbed. If it has, plug back in and secure the cable to avoid repeat disruptions.
- If after your initial check the thermostat still lacks power, it’s important to check your breaker panel. Take these steps to check:
- Locate the breaker switch that controls the power to your thermostat and check if it is in the off position. A tripped breaker can cause a loss of power to the thermostat.
- If the switch is off, flip it back to the on position and see if the thermostat powers up.
- For the next step; if you have another working thermostat please switch its face plate with the faceplate of the non-working thermostat.
- Check if the original thermostat with the new faceplate works.
